The Java Runtime Enviroment (JRE) allows starting Java (.jar) programs. It can not be used to develop them. If you want to do the latter, install JDK and an IDE like Eclipse.

Download JRE *HERE* after accepting the license agreement.

Make sure to download the correct bit version for your system.

Actually, you should only choose 64 bit if you're running a 64 bit OS, otherwise download 32 bit. Modern computers use 64 bit. 64 will run 32, but not the other way around, so make sure you download the right one for your OS.
